Starting a small business in Las Vegas, NV: which licenses and registrations do I need?

Yoan wrote: “I am a homeowner and conduct my business from home online, and I want an LLC. I am in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I sell from home.”

Hi Yoan, Super Home LLC is an exciting name to see on a new business in Las Vegas. Flexible hours let you build around family life while serving local customers. Since your goals are to protect your personal assets, limit exposure from sales, clients, employees, or debt and bring in partners or investors, the LLC sits at the center of this plan. In this answer you will find the business structure, the tax registrations, and the local and industry licenses for Super Home LLC, plus a short recap at the end.

A Las Vegas home business is common, and the local steps are a Nevada state business license, a city business license, and a check that your home occupation fits neighborhood rules, particularly if employees or deliveries come to the house. With five employees, that last check is not trivial: parking and foot traffic are what neighbors notice first. Nevada has no wage withholding, so payroll requires only an unemployment account. A seller's permit is needed if you sell taxable goods directly to buyers. An LLC is a good fit here, since your house is your largest asset, and a clear operating agreement matters if the partners and investors you mentioned join in.

What Super Home LLC needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC keeps business debts and lawsuits separate from your personal home and savings. A dispute with a client over an order could lead to a lawsuit, and an LLC protects your personal savings. An operating agreement sets out who owns what and who decides, which keeps partnerships friendly. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it. If you plan to sell shares to investors, a corporation may fit better later, and an LLC can convert when that day comes.
  2. EIN (federal tax ID number) – You plan on 5 employees, so the federal tax ID number (EIN) is required for payroll, and you will also use it for the business bank account and supplier accounts.
  3. Nevada seller's permit – Needed if you sell products alongside your service, and it lets you buy resale items tax-free.
  4. Nevada employer ID – With 5 employees, you need a state employer account number for unemployment insurance. Nevada has no state income tax on wages, so there is no withholding account to open, which is one less form to file.
  5. Business license – Nevada requires a state business license for most businesses, and you will usually need a local business license in Las Vegas as well.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a small business it is NAICS 541990 (All Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services). With 5 employees planned, you are already creating jobs in Las Vegas. That makes 5 items on your list.

Tip: Check home occupation rules before welcoming customers to your house.

To recap: Super Home LLC in Las Vegas, NV needs an LLC, an EIN, a sales tax permit for product sales, a state employer ID, and a business license. Handle these early and the business starts on solid ground.

How do I get a small business in Floral Park, NY licensed and registered?

The owner wrote: “I am an importer and wholesaler of clothing in Floral Park, New York.”

Meena Bazaar sounds like a promising venture. Flexible hours let you build around family life while serving local customers. You told us you want to protect your personal assets, limit exposure from sales, clients, employees, or debt and raise capital or sell shares, and that is exactly what an LLC is built for. Here is what we will cover: how to structure Meena Bazaar, the tax IDs it needs, and the licenses that let you open in Floral Park, then a quick recap.

Importing clothing and selling it wholesale brings two kinds of paperwork. For customs, you need to know who acts as the importer of record, and textile labeling rules require fiber content and country of origin on garments. For sales, a New York Certificate of Authority is the registration to hold, and your wholesale buyers should give you resale certificates so you do not charge them tax. Keep copies of every one, since missing certificates turn into tax bills. Raising capital and bringing in investors are among your five goals, so an LLC with an operating agreement in Floral Park suits you: it lets you issue ownership, shields personal savings from container-sized debts, and builds credibility with suppliers abroad.

What Meena Bazaar needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – Forming an LLC puts a legal wall between the business and your personal assets. A dispute with a client over an order could lead to a lawsuit, and an LLC protects your personal savings. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it. If you plan to sell shares to investors, a corporation may fit better later, and an LLC can convert when that day comes.
  2. New York assumed name certificate – Registering "Meena Bazaar" tells the public who stands behind the name. If you form an LLC under that exact name, the LLC filing itself protects the name and a separate DBA is usually unnecessary.
  3. EIN (federal tax ID number) – The federal tax ID number (EIN) identifies the business for taxes. You need it for an LLC, a business bank account, wholesale suppliers, and your first hire.
  4. New York Certificate of Authority – Needed if you sell products alongside your service, and it lets you buy resale items tax-free.
  5. Business license – Most places require a local business license to operate, including home-based businesses. Check the rules where Meena Bazaar will operate in Floral Park, and ask about home occupation and zoning rules if you work from home. Home-based businesses often need a home occupation permit as well, which can limit customer visits, employees, and how much inventory you keep at home.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a small business it is NAICS 541990 (All Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services). That makes 5 items on your list.

Tip: Check home occupation rules before welcoming customers to your house.

To recap: Meena Bazaar in Floral Park, NY needs an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, a sales tax permit for product sales, and a business license. With the paperwork done, the fun part begins: serving your first customers.

I need advice on business insurance, finding investors, a website and advertising for my record label. Does the LLC service include the state fee and an operating agreement?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

For a record label, an LLC is the right base. You handle artists' contracts, royalties and releases, and the LLC separates any dispute from your personal assets. The state's filing charge is shown apart from our service fee on the order page, and the operating agreement is prepared with your LLC, so your bank can open the account.

• Insurance: ask an insurance agent about general liability and media liability for a label, plus coverage for equipment.
• Investors: they usually want a formed LLC, an operating agreement and clean books first, then a clear plan for how their money is used.
• Website and advertising: register the name and open the bank account before you spend on promotion.

A surety bond is not what you need. Insurance protects you from claims, while bonds guarantee performance in certain regulated trades.

Do I need an LLC and a tax ID if my items are not taxable in my state? I also need to register a business at an address in Georgia.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Yes, an LLC still makes sense even when your products are not taxable. Taxability is only about sales tax, while the LLC is about protecting your personal assets from product and customer claims, and about credibility. With investors in mind, a formal company is what they will want to see.

On the tax ID, you still need an EIN for banking and federal taxes, since that is separate from sales tax. A seller's permit may not be needed if everything you sell is exempt, but many suppliers and marketplaces still ask for one, so check with them. Health and beauty products can be taxable in other places, so check where you sell.

For the Georgia address, I cannot supply an office location. Register the business at the real place where you operate, or use a registered agent's address for state papers. A local business license depends on that location.

I live in New York and want to start a mobile petting zoo. I also want to sell gift baskets by taking the order and having a company ship it. What do I need, and can I charge sales tax?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

A mobile petting zoo carries real risk, since children and animals mix and a bite or a fall could lead to a claim. An LLC is the proper vehicle, because it separates that exposure from your personal assets, and it can bring in investors. A foreign owner is fine for an LLC.

• Petting zoo: animal exhibits are regulated, so expect animal health paperwork, permits for events, and liability insurance that venues will ask for.
• Business license, locally, plus approvals for each event location.
• EIN, for banking and taxes.

For the gift baskets, to charge sales tax you need a seller's permit, which in New York is registered as a certificate of authority. Even if you never touch the product or the money, if you take the order and your company is the seller, you generally must be registered to collect tax. If the other company is the seller of record, it may handle that, so clarify who sells.

How long does it take to get a reseller's permit in New York with expedited service? I do not have a certificate of authority for my LLC. I also have questions about zoning for a home inspection business.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

In New York, the sales tax registration is called a certificate of authority, and a reseller's permit is built on it, so you do need one for your LLC. We can file it with expedited handling, which moves faster than standard processing, but I cannot promise a specific number of days because timing depends on the application.

Home inspection is a service, so the permit matters mainly if you also sell products or tools that are taxable. Your LLC fits the business well: inspectors face claims when something is missed, and the LLC separates those from your personal assets.

• Zoning: a home office is usually allowed, but you do not need a vote from the town council in most cases. Ask locally whether a home occupation approval applies.
• Professional license: home inspectors are licensed in many places, so confirm before you take clients.

File the certificate of authority well before your first sale, since New York asks that you register in advance.

What license do I need to buy seafood in Louisiana, transport it to Tennessee and sell it to restaurants and the public, and do I need a wholesale license?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Form an LLC before anything else. Moving fresh shrimp and other seafood across state lines involves spoilage, illness and vehicle risks, and the LLC protects your personal assets while showing restaurants that they are dealing with an established company. A foreign owner can hold an LLC, too.

• EIN, for the account, payroll and supplier accounts.
• Seller's permit: it works as your wholesale and resale registration, so you can buy without tax and sell with tax. You may need one wherever you sell.
• Seafood dealer permit: seafood is regulated at each step, including buying, cold storage and delivery, so ask where your product is sourced and sold.
• Business license, locally.

Whether you open a fish market or a restaurant, each needs its own food permits and inspections.
